How does it work?

Freebie Rentals can provide you with a FREE replacement vehicle when your car has been damaged in an accident. To qualify for a FREE rental the other driver must be at fault and have insurance.

We provide you with a written indemnity agreement which states that the vehicle hire is not charged to you and that we will recover the costs from the at-fault driver’s insurance company.  Under the terms of our agreement (which of course you should read carefully) there are obligations that you have to comply with including, if requested, assisting us with the recovery of the rental costs. Such assistance may include providing documents, statements or in some very rare circumstances appearing in court as a witness.

Who pays for the car?

Freebie Rentals will be paid by the insurance company of the driver who is at fault for the cost of your rental vehicle.

Please also refer to “What do I pay for?” below for information about items you will pay for such as your usual operating costs and please also read “How does it work?” above for details of your obligations under our agreement.

What do I pay for?

If you are not at fault in a car accident we can provide you with a car free of charge to you. You are still responsible for the following items as detailed on the rental agreement that will be provided to you:

  • Fuel — the car will come with a full tank of fuel. We ask that it is returned with a full tank of fuel.
  • Tolls — you are responsible for toll charges. Our cars are fitted with toll transponders integrated with our system and the toll company. The toll company will automatically charge toll costs to your Visa/Mastercard/American Express card.
  • Excess — in the case of any damage to the vehicle you are responsible for payment of the excess amount.
  • Traffic Infringements — if we receive any traffic infringements we will complete a statutory declaration for the authorities. A fee will be invoiced to you for this service.
  • Smoking — all of our vehicles are non-smoking.  If there is ash or cigarette smell in the vehicle on its return then a cleaning fee will be invoiced to you.

Please also refer to “How does it work?” above for further details of your obligations under our agreement.

How will the claims process work?

To begin the claims process simply apply online or give us a call on 1300 789 960

  • We will then assess your application and if we are able to supply you with a vehicle we will contact you to organise a time and location convenient to you to deliver your car. This is usually the Smash Repair workshop but may also be your home, workplace or our depot. (This delivery is subject to availability in your area).
  • When your vehicle has been repaired, you just drop off our car at the smash repair shop and pick up your vehicle – you will need to let us know that you have done this and we will collect our car.
  • If your vehicle has been deemed a write-off, we will collect our vehicle directly from you once you have settled your claim.
  • However, if collection is unavailable in your area you will need to return the vehicle to our depot before picking up your own car.
How long can I keep the car?
  • If your car is being repaired, you may keep the car for as long as is needed to repair your vehicle.
  • If your car is a write-off and your claim is through the at fault party’s insurance agency, you may keep the car until your settlement payment is received or until we are notified of the settlement being paid.
  • If your vehicle is a write-off and you are claiming settlement from your own insurance company, you may keep the car until you have received your settlement payment or for up to a total of 14 rental days (whichever comes first)
Are there any age requirements?

For our cars, drivers must be at least 19 years old and hold an Open or Provisional driver licence.

Age restrictions apply to the hire of certain categories of vehicles.

Can I pay to rent a car from you?

No sorry. We aren’t currently providing a general rental service. If you are not at fault in a car accident we can provide our cars free of charge to you.
